Fire Up Your Desire

Desire is the Fire of Life
By Max Stein
The key that insures your success in any endeavor is desire.
If you are willing to pay the price,
 Even your circumstances will change.
If you want something badly enough,
You are sure to get it.
Reality forms around the commitments you make.
Your desires will in time externalize themselves into concrete facts.
 Obstacles don’t matter very much.
Pain or other circumstances can be there.
But if you want to do something bad enough,
You’ll find a way to get it done.
You only have to love a thing greatly to get it.

Desire is a simple word with a powerful meaning.  It embodies your wants and your longings and fuels your action steps to your aspirations.  It takes an idea and turns it into fruition.  What’s more, it feeds your commitment to your goals and gives you the drive necessary to overcome any obstacles that will come your way.  No question about it, desire is invigorating.

So, what are some ways to stoke the fire of desire?
• Be positive in all that you do and say and surround yourself with positive people.  Recite your mantra every day that you can have what you desire.  Believe in yourself.
• Get far away from nay sayers.
• Share your goals with others so that they can support you also.
• Visualize your success and the culmination of your desire.  If you want to write a book, then draw a picture of your book, (title, author, and all) and place it in strategic places in your home and office.  That way, it is front and center all of the time.  Likewise, if you want to save money to go to Australia, place travel photos around your house and print airline tickets with a date on them to keep in view.
• Read, learn, and feed your mind.  Listen to audio books.  Get a grip on how others have achieved the success that you want.
• Find a mentor to guide you.  (S)he is already where you want to be.
• Clear away any “stuff” that is draining your ability to focus on your goals.
• Make a decision, take action, and move forward.  You might take a few steps backwards in the process, but at least you are in action.  Do not wallow in analysis paralysis.
• Go the extra mile.  Be disciplined, focused, empowered, and be willing to pay the price.
• Accept that you will stumble.  Know that you will succeed.

Yes, cultivate your desire so that it can ignite into roaring flames and fuel your drive to get what you want.  What do you want in your life that you are willing to move heaven and earth and overcome all obstacles to achieve it?  Go for it!

“The starting point of all achievement is desire.  Keep this constantly in mind.  Weak desires bring weak results, just as a small amount of fire makes a small amount of heat.”
 Napoleon Hill

“Nothing stops the man who desires to achieve.  Every obstacle is simply a course to develop his achievement muscle.  It’s a strengthening of his powers of accomplishment.”
 Eric Butterworth

“It sometimes seems that intense desire creates not only its own opportunities, but its own talents.”
 Eric Hoffer

“You learn that, whatever you are doing in life, obstacles don’t matter very much.  Pain or other circumstances can be there, but if you want to do a job bad enough, you’ll find a way to get it done.”
 Jack Youngblood

I am fueling my fire immensely this week.  As you read this I am in Toronto with my coach and mentor, Chris Barrow (he will be guest writing a future column), along with twenty other like minded coaches and consultants.  We have a mastermind that fuels our creativity and business acumen and inspires us to reach for the stars.  I come away from each quarterly intensive with renewed passion, energy, and belief in myself and the direction my life has taken.
From Toronto I fly to Chicago to attend the Dentist Well-Being Workshop.  This will be a first time event for me and I have been looking forward to it ever since I met the director Linda Keating at the Chicago Mid Winter Meeting last February. I love the title this year:  “Keeping the Life in Your Life’s Work”.  How appropriate for those of us who desire to remain on the balance beam.
The best part of all this is what I bring back to my coaching/consulting/speaking/writing business, sharing it with others, and seeing the powerful impact it can have in their lives.  So, stay tuned.  But, you might have to wait a week.  I’ll be taking a few days off to regroup when I return home.
