 How's Your Peace of Mind?

Are you worried about this or that, struggling to pay the bills, ill more often than you like, angry much of the time, unhappy, juggling too many activities, time pressed, and/or feeling out of control?

Ah, if you only had some peace of mind, life would be good, you say!

Peace of mind is the absence of mental stress or anxiety, and the presence of serenity, calm, quiet, comfort of mind, says the dictionary. That sounds enticing!

Is it even possible to feel that way?

Yes, and it is to your benefit to feel that way.  "Peace of mind is the essential precondition for happiness and for getting the maximum amount of enjoyment and pleasure out of your work and your personal life.  When you make inner peace your highest goal and organize all your activities, decisions and behavior around it, you will be happier and more effective in your life and career than under any other circumstances," says Brian Tracy.

How's your peace of mind?  On a scale of 1-10 with 10 meaning your peace of mind is thriving and 1 meaning it is non-existent, how do you score?

Here are some tips to help you secure more peace of mind:

You must accept responsibility for your life, both the inner one and the outer one.  You live life from the inside out, so whatever is going on in your inner life (your thoughts, emotions, desires) will be reflected in your outer life.  Feed you mind and heart negativity, anger, distrust, and fear, and it will appear in your outer life - in your job, your relationships with others, and your health to name a few.  It is to your benefit to substitute your negative thoughts with positive ones to ensure that your outer life reflects the happiness of your inner life.  Choose positive thoughts!

Furthermore, you must confront what is not working in your life, get out of denial, and get to work on making the changes that will bring you greater peace of mind.

Are you worrying too much?  Recognize that most of what you worry about never happens, or it happened in the past so you can't go back and change it, or you worry about insignificant things, so why are you worrying?  If it is a legitimate worry, face up to the worst that could happen and accept that you can handle it. This will enable you to move past the worry and take the actions necessary to solve the issue which is causing you worry, instead of only focusing on the problem.

Do you have too much on your plate and acknowledge that it is robbing you of your peace of mind?  What must you say "No" to so that you can say "Yes" to peace of mind?  You did choose to put it there, now choose to take it away.

Additionally, finish up your unfinished business, projects, relationships, or whatever is keeping you up at night.  Stop procrastinating, complete, forgive yourself and/or others, and move on, for good!

Let go of that which you cannot control.  You can't control the weather, the person who cut you off in traffic, the anger of someone else, or the actions of others. You can control how you react to situations in life and your reactions will be a determining factor in the peace of mind you achieve.  React in a positive, calm, cool, and relaxed manner and note the changes in your well-being.

When you make peace of mind a goal to achieve, and remain committed, you will make the changes necessary to make it happen. You will then become a much more positive person who is more relaxed, happier, and healthier.

"From his cradle to his grave a man never does a single thing which has any first and foremost object but one - to secure peace of mind, spiritual comfort, for himself."

            Mark Twain

"The first rule is to keep an untroubled spirit.  The second is to look things in the face and know them for what they are."

            Marcus Aurelius

"If there is to be any peace, it will come through being, not having."

            Henry Miller

"When you have attained peace of mind, your mind will automatically reject every thought and mental reaction that is not beneficial to your welfare."

            Napoleon Hill

Imagine how your life will be when you stop creating and focusing on the stressors that keep you up at night and rob you of peace of mind.  Many of those stressors are of your own choosing and making, so now is the time to make new choices.   Paint your own picture of how fulfilling your life could be. Then live it.

Peace of mind is an admirable goal to achieve.  Join me in its attainment.

Have a fantastic week and enjoy peace of mind.

Stephanie
