The 5 F’s to a Breakthrough
 
What do you want to accomplish that will have a dramatic and far-reaching effect for you and your life?  Do you want to start a new business, lose weight, have the energy and stamina to take a bike ride through France, write a book?  What is that one success story you are yearning to tell? 
 
Dr. Stan Harris (a.k.a. Dr. Breakthrough) knows all about breakthroughs.  He teaches others through demonstration how to break through the limitations that hold them back from living their dreams.  Dr. Harris’ defining moment occurred when he was six years old: he was jumped, beaten, and tarred by a gang.  He then became trained in martial arts to protect himself and is now one of the few people in the world who has earned the 10th degree Black Belt.  His background in martial arts fuels much of his motivational speaking.
 
What is the breakthrough you want?  Write out your success story in vivid detail (your vision).  Then, follow what Dr. Harris says are the 5 F’s necessary to achieve a breakthrough:
1. Faith.  You have to find the answers in your heart.  Faith sees the victory; you must believe that it is possible.  Never waver from this position.  Fear will only wear you down and does nothing but attract “no good” into your life.  His advice is to face it until you make it, and to surround yourself with people who have faith in you.
2. Facts.  Facts fuel your faith.  So, get your facts straight.  Read biographies of successful people to see how they achieved their breakthroughs.  People who flourish believe their beliefs and doubt their doubts.  On the other hand, if you believe your doubts, and doubt your beliefs you are on the path to disaster. Remember the power of positive thinking. 
3. Focus.  You must first see the breakthrough in your mind.  Keep the vision front and center and verbalize it daily.  Then, focus all of your energy and thoughts onto this breakthrough.  Focus on what you are breaking TO, not on what you’re breaking through.  For example, concentrate on the new you when you are 20 pounds lighter, how you will look, and how you will feel with more energy, rather than focusing on the fact that you need to lose 20 pounds.  Focus on where you are going to.  Yes, you will have setbacks along the way.  Dr. Harris aptly says that “setback is a set-up for a comeback.”
4. Force.  Take action and get on the breakthrough path.  You don’t have to get it just right, (sound like you?), just get going.  NOW!
5. Follow-through.  Check the path you are on, make adjustments, and follow it through to success.
 
Set forth on the breakthrough you want to achieve.  Visualize it.  Then have faith and the facts, focus your energy on success, take force and get into action, and then follow through.  That breakthrough will be yours!

“I am experiencing great victories, supernatural turnarounds, and miraculous turnaround in the midst of great impossibilities. I am an overcomer! If my mountain can't be removed, I will develop and practice my mountain climbing skills. I may experience a setback, but setbacks are only setups for comebacks. Setbacks pave the way for comebacks. I'll make lemonade out of life's lemons, and if life knocks me down, I will fall on my back realizing, that as long as I can look up, I can get up!”

The 5 F’s seem so simple in theory, yet there are many of us who stumble on the path to breakthrough. Then we give up and are off on another path to another breakthrough.  I’ve been there.  Looking back I can see where I faltered; all of the five F’s have caught me off guard at one time or another.  Faith: it’s that positive thinking again, so important to living a fulfilling life.  Facts: I always had plenty of facts; it was a matter of believing my beliefs.  Focus:  I was great at focusing, but sometimes I was focusing on the wrong things.  Force: You already know I’m a perfectionist and that would slow down my action steps.  Follow-through:  Yes, stick it out to the end, or know when to change paths.  I find the words of Dr. Harris very powerful and to hear them spoken is even more uplifting.  These 5 F’s give me another tool to create change in my life.
 
Speaking of change, my children will be making big changes in their lives soon.  My son John is completing his graduate studies and is soon to be out in the workforce.  My daughter Valerie will be studying abroad in Barcelona, Spain this summer.  New opportunities and new adventures await them both.  It’s a grand time to share the 5 F’s with them.
