Life is a Grindstone, or Is It?

"Life is a grindstone.  But whether it grinds you down or polishes you up depends upon what you are made of."

            Thomas L. Holdcroft

You put your heart and soul into something, and then you realize it's not working.  You are on a path that sure seems like it will lead you to success, and then the path literally disappears right before your eyes, or it turns out to be the wrong path.  Someone you thought was a friend turns out to be an enemy.  Your medical check-up turns up discouraging news.

You hang around people who like to complain.  "Come join my pity party," you say.  You become stressed, angry, overwhelmed, and focused on the negative.  What's not working in your life becomes the norm and the grindstone gets sharper.

Yes, life is a grindstone, grinding away, day after day.  If you view it that way.

Yet, a grindstone can be used to polish life.  It is this polish that brings out your inner strength and beauty.  You are able to use the latter to rise above your hardships. You focus on solutions to life's abrasiveness, instead of dwelling on the problems.  You look for the meaning of your errors and move forward with new lessons.  You know that success is attainable when you keep polishing.

You hang around polished people who remain optimistic about life.  "Come join my polishing party," you say.  "Bring your polish.  We will support one another."

How will you view your grindstone?  Will you allow it to roughen up your edges or will you open your heart and allow it to polish your inner strength?

"I am more and more convinced that our happiness or our unhappiness depends far more on the way we meet the events of life than on the nature of those events themselves."

            Karl Wilhem Von Humboldt

"What life means to us is determined, not so much by what life brings to us as by the attitude we bring to life; not so much by what happens to us as by our reaction to what happens."

            Lewis L Dunnington

"There is a choice you have to make, in everything you do. And you must always keep in mind, the choice you make, makes you."

Life has been super busy the past few weeks and I was having difficulty viewing my grindstone.  It's easy to do.  A reality check brought out the polish.  Life is better that way!
