Happy Birthday Play-Doh!
What is it about this mixture of water, flour, and salt that has endeared generations for 50 years? The glob is soft, squishy, pliable, and has a distinctive smell. Its attraction lies in its ability to bring out the creative genius in people so that they have the freedom to build whatever they want. The possibilities are endless, just as they are for your life. As a matter of fact, Play-Doh and life are quite similar in more ways than one:
1. Play-Doh (PD) is soft, pliable, and moldable. Do you want to make a cookie, a car, an airplane? You can do it. You can add a little bit here, take away a bit there, and keep sculpting until it is just as you want it. It can be molded into whatever the mind can conceive. Whatever the mind of man can conceive and believe, it can achieve. (W. Clement Stone) What do you believe about your life? Who do you want to be and where do you want to go? Start now to shape your life. Dream, imagine! Form your idea, see your vision, set your goals and work the PD.
2. PD is colorful. There was only one color made in 1956 off-white. This year, PD introduces its 50 color pack. Color your imagination and make your dreams vivid. No drab colors allowed. Look on the bright side of life as you reach your goals. What can you create with rose red, purple paradise, blue lagoon, and garden green? What will grow in your garden?
3. PD can stretch, just as you can stretch yourself. Live outside the box. Widen your horizons and reach for the stars. When you engage in systematic, purposeful action, using and stretching your abilities to the maximum, you cannot help but feel positive and confident about yourself. (Brain Tracy)
4. Not only can PD stretch, if you stretch too far or find yourself way out on a limb with no way back you do have options. You can always tear off a piece of PD and reattach it somewhere else. Likewise, you can make course corrections in your life, try other avenues, and still keep your home base.
5. OR, you can wad up the whole darn concoction you made and start all over again. You get a second chance, or a third, or a fourth. If at first you dont succeed, try try again. Very easy to do with PD, and doable with life.
6. The downside of PD is that it can dry out and crumble when you do not handle it with care. It has to rest when not in use and be put back into its container. Otherwise, it makes a mess and you are left picking up all the pieces. What happens when you do not nourish yourself or handle yourself with care? The body and mind begin to dry out and become sluggish, your energy and zest for life turn to darkness and your dreams become less vivid. Nurture you.
More than 900 million pounds of Play-Doh have been made over the years. Thats a lot of creative freedom and imagination unleashed all over the world. How are you using yours?
